Tim Kasher's Solo Album

Mostly any music put out under Saddle Creek records is good. From Bright Eyes to Azure Ray, the label has given many of us bands and artists who help get us through the day.

It has been announced that Tim Kasher, the frontman for Cursive is getting ready to release his first solo album. “The Name of Monogamy” has been written, recorded and produced by Kasher. His facebook page describes the album as “more of an arranged record than any of Kasher’s past releases, filled with theatrical arrangements and lush instrumentation to create his own blend of classic pop.” We can assume from the title that is about love and relationships.

Kasher previewed his album on July 27th in Chicago but if you weren’t able to make it to that show the album is due to be released October 5th of this year. For more information visit Saddle Creek

The Animal Print Craze

Animal print is pretty big right now, it’s like stripes and polka dots, it makes an appearance on the runway every now and then.

It is a funky look and you will be sure to stand out in animal prints. The one thing with the animal print trend is that it doesn’t suit everyone, if you’re a bit of a wild child then go for it. It looks great on the right person, you have to be able to pull it off, the trick is not to go to over the top with it, too much animal print looks a little crazy.  If it really isn’t your thing but following the latest fashion trend is, then maybe you should go for animal print nails or animal print shoes options. Pretty and simple, yet not in your face and still adding something special to your outfit.

Open Letter to Justin Timberlake

Dear Justin,

Although I swore allegiance to the Backstreet Boys during a particularly memorable sleepover in 4th grade, during the course of which I also played “light as a feather, stiff as a board,” and put the underwear of the first girl to fall asleep into the freezer, I have to confess that there was also a special place in my heart for you. If I’m being perfectly honest though, I still don’t understand what the deal was with your frosted Jeri curl. But I digress. You were great in Nsync and perhaps even better solo, but I cannot, in good faith support your decisions to either 1. Try your hand at acting or 2. Try your hand at designing. In regards to the second offense, I firmly believe that your collaboration with your childhood friend Trace Ayala on William Rast never should have happened. I mostly try to pretend it didn’t but on occasion this fantasy cannot be maintained; like today, when I found out that your line will be featured as one of Target’s designer collections. Being in the company of Proenza Schouler and Zac Posen is not to be taken lightly; and while some may fight to be first in line on December 19th when the collection [which will feature outerwear and sportswear for both men and women] makes its debut, I will not. Please do not send the customary response written by your PR assistant like last time.

Keep Your Ears To The Streets

If you commute in the city then you know the biggest statement you can make on the streets are your headphones. I’ve been a fan of over-the-ear headphones for a while because of their subway sound-resistant quality and their ability to serve as musical earmuffs in the winter. After my last pair broke I’ve been on a web-wide search for the perfect new set, but with little luck. I needed something easily portable and with great sound quality, but without compromising style.

That was until I ran across Urbanears.com, a Scandinavian company with the coolest headphones on the market. They are solid and simple headphones but with colors and sound that reach far beyond mono. Urbanears come in three different styles for those of you who prefer something a little more discreet and 13 different colors ranging from chocolate, white, ocean, navy, and salad green. They also have a hands-free mic on the cord so you can listen to music on your iPhone/Blackberry without missing a call. Now the only problem is choosing which color suits you best. Now worries if you can't decide, at only 60 bucks a pop why not buy a color for everyday of the week?

Kate Who?

So what happens when world renowned, respected and adored photographer Mario Testino meets the face, that is Kate Moss? Exceptionally beautiful photographs are taken. Obviously. And eventually 18 life size portraits are curated into a exhibition entitled Kate Who? Not only this, but to coincide with this exhibition a collection of these images have been published in a book titled simply, Kate Moss. The relationship that exists between the two is evident in each photo, and shows the awareness and familiarity that clearly progressed and grew over their two decades of working together. Whilst Mosses career is often documented, what is so very intriguing about Testinos work is the character that he has found in Kate. Testino is renowned for his glamorization of celebrity culture and how he plays with this. However these images vere away from this, the images are often less about the perfect fashion shot and more about tempting controversial ideas and themes. It is everything you would expect when you put one of the most talented, innovative, and creative photographers behind the camera, along with one of the most fashionable and beautiful faces in front of the lens.  So, KATE WHO?

Animal Prints RAWR

As I sit on my bed in decidedly unfashionable pajamas, attempting to write a post that is both witty and substantive, I realize that I can’t call to mind a single item currently or previously in my possession that boasts an animal print. Then I look up and notice my hidden in plain sight collection of formerly cherished Beanie Babies which includes a tiger, the name of which I’ve forgotten, and decide that maybe that isn’t the most accurate representation of my belongings. Nonetheless, while I never thought I was consciously avoiding the inclusion of animal prints in my wardrobe, I guess if you said, I’m not the pattern’s biggest fan, you wouldn’t be wrong. I often feel as if, like a past her prime beauty in a low cut top and tight jeans, it tries too hard to be sexy and fails. All the same, I indisputably have to hand it to Dries Van Noten for his inspired use of leopard print in his Fall 2010 RTW collection. It was sexy; laid back yet also polished, and spoke to the designer’s menswear roots. So, if you are going to try the leopard look this fall, I urge you to keep it simple and add a touch of masculinity to keep it from looking overdone.

Not So Wallet-Friendly

Usually, I commend J.Crew for its ability to create classic and timeless pieces for a pretty reasonable price. Spending $80 on a silk blouse or pencil skirt isn’t a huge deal- after all; they are necessities that will never go out of style. However, during my routine browsing of their website’s “New Arrivals” section, I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the prices on some of their newest, trendiest items. $495 for a sequined spaghetti-strap tank, $695 for an all-over lace cami, and $1,200 for a feather jacket. I wouldn’t be surprised if I was looking at something from Chanel or Marc Jacobs- but J.Crew? I just don’t know if I’m on board with this sudden boost in pricing. Don’t they know we’re still in a recession, or that these prices are only acceptable for high end designers? It just doesn’t make much sense. These over priced items are beautiful, I will admit that, but I just can’t see myself (or anyone else, for that matter) throwing down ,close to a thousand dollars, on something that may not even be in style next season. There are faux fur vests from Urban Outfitters and sequined tops at Forever21 that are just as cute for a small fraction of the price. So tell us, CHAOS readers, would YOU dish out your hard-earned cash for these new J.Crew goodies?

For the bibliophile whose summer reading list is as long as the Tour de France route, there's an online book haven to explore. Powell's Books, a mini-chain of stores selling used and new books in Portland, Oregon, has a wonderful website for those who can't make it all the way to the Pacific Northwest to check out their stock firsthand. Their selection of used books is both expansive and affordable (my picks: Stephen King's On Writing and Joseph O'Neill's Netherland), and with sections like 'Staff Picks' and 'Review-a-Day' it's easy to find anything from light beach reading to something you can seriously sink your teeth into. The Powell's Blog is also a must-read; it features book reviews, author interviews, first paragraph previews of new novels, and guest bloggers like former Gawker editor Emily Gould and the man behind BikeSnobNYC. Bookworms, take note!

Fair Deal

For those currently frolicking around NYC right now (hopefully in places with plentiful air conditioning) there’s a fantastic new shopping experience to be had in a little lot on the corner of Essex and Hester Streets. It’s the fledgling Hester Street Fair, where on Saturdays you can expect to find anything from vintage designer clothes to horchata-flavored ice pops. The market offers 30% food, 60% clothing and 10% crafts and jewelry, so there’s something for everyone.

The idea for a multi-cultural, über-local LES street fair came from MTV News correspondent SuChin Pak, her brother Suyhun, and Ron Castellano (co-designer of Santos Party House), who made a proposal to the co-op in control of the Hester St. lot. There are plans for more indie boutiques to take part, not to mention the future addition of Union Square farmer’s market produce, and the fair is slated to continue every Saturday until December.Go check it out, and keep an eye out for street style photographers snapping the fashionable fair-goers. http://www.hesterstreetfair.com/

Tokyo Police Club's Summer Tour

Not two years after releasing their debut album “Elephant Shell” Tokyo Police Club released a new album in June, 2010 entitled “Champ” and are getting ready to hit the road.

Tokyo Police Club started their U.S. tour off on July 24th in Columbus, OH and will continue touring until early October. Their website reveals that the July 25th show in Buffalo, NY is already sold out. However, that is not surprising considering the staple they have become in the indie-music realm.

If you haven’t heard the new album you should check it out. Some would argue that the sound is typical for an indie-band, however others would say that it’s classic. Either way most of the reviews have stated that “Champ” is definitely worth the listen.

Festivals: More Than Just Music

Anyone who has been to a music festival this summer knows that live music is only part of the festivities. Now that summer is more than halfway over, you might have already hit Coachella to check out the crowd of bikini-and-cutoff-clad concert-goers, or maybe you’re currently joining the hipster masses in Chicago for the Pitchfork Music Festival, a 3-day indie gathering where you can catch St. Vincent, Pavement, and Sleigh Bells all in the same day. Maybe you’re gearing up for Lollapalooza in early August, or perhaps you’re still recovering from Bonnaroo, the musical bacchanal in Tennessee, back in June.

The fashion, food, and art scenes are just as big as the music itself at these festivals. How to make the most of music fests? You can get dolled up in H&M’s hippie-chic festival line; the collection even includes sleeping bags and tents that are as cute as the clothes. You can learn all the best places to eat in Chicago here while waiting for Lady Gaga to get onstage at Lollapalooza, or you can make a pilgrimage to the West Coast for Bumbershoot, a Seattle festival that includes street art installations and alt-cartoonist retrospectives. So remember: there’s still time to get yourself to a festival, and make sure to fit in as much fun as you can!

Simple, easy and perfect for every skin tone. Whether you pick shoes, accessories or clothes in a neutral shade it will work for you. Don't worry, you won't look plain and it's not like you have to wear everything neutral.

It's all about blending the right neutral colors with your skin tone, this is what gives that natural look. The trick is to add a splash of color somewhere, red lips or bright accessories. Basically just keep it plain and simple, yet still with a bit of something special, easy, for example, metallic bangles.

If the skin tone colors really aren't your thing then fear not, black is also considered to be a neutral color. The best thing about black is it goes with everything and girls, it makes you look slim.

Broken Bells

If you haven’t heard of Broken Bells yet, here's the scoop:

Broken Bells is a rock band that consists of famous producer Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse and The Shins lead singer and guitarist James Mercer. The two have collaborated after a few years of knowing each other and have produced a wonder in this new project.

Mercer’s smooth vocals combined with Burton’s producing expertise has brought us the best of both worlds. “The High Road” is their most popular song at the moment and they just made a music video for “The Ghost Inside” (both songs are worth checking out).

Their self-titled album was released March 9th, 2010 and is gaining popularity. Broken Bells will be going on a world-wide tour starting at the end of July and will hit up major American cities such as: LA, Austin and New York.

Tweed

If I’m being perfectly honest, and I always am with you, tweed has rarely entered my consciousness when making significant style decisions. Or to be more precise, it has, on occasion, wormed its way into my psyche, only to be violently expelled with the imaginary fly swatter I often use to dismiss particularly unpleasant thoughts. There is just something about the fabric that makes me feel as if I should be sitting in a study, with a bookcase in the background, wearing glasses and smoking a pipe while enjoying Masterpiece Theater. To be fair, however, while perusing Rag & Bone’s Fall 2010 RTW collection online, I was surprisingly intrigued. There is something mischievous about the typically edgy brand’s overpowering use of the material. Instead of reminding me of a cranky old Englishman, the vibe I was getting, probably as a result of the cape and knee socks, was more vampy English schoolgirl—a look I would be more than happy to don. I may therefore begrudgingly revise my opinion of tweed in order to include the fabric in my fall wardrobe.

Style.com: Not only does this application allow you to view runway outfits but to actually watch runway shows from your phone too! Within your busy life, you still have enough time for front row seat at the latest fashion show.

Vera Wang - Perfect Pearls

Pearls are girly, elegant and most importantly, they are fashionable. It may take you back to the 1950s, a time when pearls were part of every day outfits and the women looked so glamorous.

Real pearls are rare and expensive to buy, these VERA WANG pearls are imitation pearls. They may not be real, but they are still elegant and feminine, yet with an edge. Fall into Change

Unfortunately, summer DOES have to come to an end - brisk weather will roll around, leaves will begin to change and school doors will re-open. However, fall does have a positive meaning: a fresh start. If you're like me, I want to take a risk with my wardrobe this season and give it a little attitude and edge.

As I was browsing for new designers, I noticed a majority of collections were predictable. Most stuck to military jackets, ruffles and fur in the fall color scheme, but I wanted to make a slight turn into something different. This is when I discovered Finn, a relatively new design house from Canada.

Montreal siblings Vicky Kelechian and Raffi Kelechian created a 2010-2011 Fall/Winter collection that fills my fashion appetite for the upcoming season. Finn is a brand motivated by pop culture, taking inspiration from movements in music, art, and design. If you’re that indie hipster or someone, like me, who wants to take a risk with style, then you have to check out these youthful and bold designs. The fall collection is a mix of “Brit rockers and jaded ballerinas that constantly break all the rules.” Finn's clothes will make you feel as if you’re about to - as they say - “awaken a spirit of rebellion.” What I like most about the collection is it shows a little shoulder and leg, even when the summer months have passed. The clothes have a strong use of typography and versatility that will be easy to mix/match day or night looks. So, if you're rebellious enough to fit into change, then you will FALL in love with the new designs from Finn ... after all you are reading CHAOS.

Kanani Signature Heels

Shoe designer BEHNAZ KANANI is known for her signature heels. She is quoted on the website saying "Exclusive and precious materials are used and this will make an experience like no other." That statement sort of makes you just want to buy a pair. Not only do they look great but to know that each pair is handcrafted is pretty much the selling point, don't you think?

These platform peep toe shoes are called Athena Black, they look like a vintage pair of shoes yet with a slight modern touch. Everyone will know who designed your shoes with a signature heel as unique as this, the slight ridge at the top of the heel has Behnaz Kanani written all over it. ;)

Unfortunately they are not available to buy on the website. However, after reading this if you feel like a little shopping spree and are anywhere near Los Angeles, Maxfield on Melrose Avenue sell Behnaz Kanani shoes. As for prices, wait and see... how much are you willing to pay for luxury handcrafted shoes?

Mixing Prints

It seems as though lately many of the hard and fast rules concerning fashion dos and don’ts we’ve previously upheld as laws are being overturned. Need I remind you of the resurrection of the clog or our newly minted enjoyment of denim on denim? I didn’t think so. So in the perhaps old but rather indomitable tradition of giving the ugly duckling a fierce makeover and sending her out into the world to bag the most popular boy at school, comes the mixing of prints—as in wearing a blouse in one print and a skirt in another. It comes as no surprise that, as a rather reliable portent of the next big thing, Proenza Schouler was one of the first brands to feature the look in its Resort 2011 collection. Although I am overjoyed by the thought of mixing but not matching, I am also of the opinion that it will take a particularly discerning fashion eye to pull it off. While your chosen prints do not have to match, it is of the utmost importance that they compliment each other; and therein lies the difficulty. One thing’s for sure, this look should make for some very amusing failed attempts.

In the eyes of the beholder

Anna Wintour Editor-in-Chief of Vogue takes fashion residency as part of alex Kratz first and hugely anticipated first solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London. The chosen works of Kratz exhibition range from a group portrait of New York intelligentsia at a cocktail party to portraits of Katz's friends and family, including a portrait of his life-long muse and his wife Ada. But it is the portrait of Wintour which is a new and hugely sucessful approach for Kratz. Capturing Anna unusually without her signature sunglasses, Krtaz became interested in Wintour during the September Issue documentry when he noticed her 'lovely eyes. Sitting for her first painting Kratz described Wintours visit to his New York Studio as, "like shooting a fish in a barrel. There was no way I could miss it." The bright yellow background and use of colour, softens the harsh associations of Wintours public character and creates a softer intriguing personality.ALEX KATZ PORTRAITS will run from 15 May - 21 September 2010, in Rooms 41 and 41a in the Contemporary Collections in the Lerner Galleries of the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Pretty in Pants

So far, this season has proven to be full of fashion risks, and the new printed-pant craze is certainly no exception. While elaborate prints have traditionally been used for casual tops and evening wear, this season brings in the bold with a new wardrobe essential: the printed pant. Whether you’re a fan of skinny jeans or structured trousers, there is a pair that is tailor-made to fit your taste. Designers like Balenciaga, Etro, Roberto Cavalli, and Dries Van Noten have all given this new style a go, and the results have been magnificent. While these high-end designers did this trend justice, my favorite pairs come from ASOS. Their styles have high-end details available at a low-end price. What I love most about this trend is that it involves a certain degree of bravery- wearing these pants on the street is a lot different than admiring them on the runway. However, if you’re up to the challenge, the results will definitely pay off. I can think of no better way to experiment with colors and textures than to play with a pair of printed pants. Match a pair with a basic tank to keep the focus on the pants, or experiment just a little with a bold colored crop-top, another summer essential. The most important thing to remember when wearing this trend is not to overdo it. If you choose a pair of loose harem pants, opt for a more form-fitting top to avoid looking too slouchy. If you pick a pair of printed skinnies, choose a blouse or flowy tee to create the perfect balance. Don’t be afraid to mix prints, either, it’s a great way to express yourself without going overboard.

When Harrier and Jaguar met Fiona

The much hyped, often controversial and hugely anticipated Dunveen Commission is back from June until January 2011 and the Tate Britain. This year Fiona Banner justifies all of the awaited hope of the London art scene by smothering the Dunveen galleries of this world renowned art gallery with two huge fighter planes. Feeding her obsession for aircraft and in particular, military aircraft, Banner ensures that her exhibit will be remembered and appreciated like those of the previous other acclaimed Dunveen commissions,  For example, Michael Landy and Martin Creed. What Banner does is questions how something as beautiful as the huge aircraft can function with the purpose alone of destruction. The installation of Harrier and Jaguar into the Dunveen galleries was clearly quite the project with the structures having to be dismantled and reassembled. How Banner has chosen to present these large scale objects is the beauty of the exhibit and is Banner rediscovering her sculptural foundations. Jaguar which lies with its belly up has been stripped of its paint work and softly reflects the reflective surfaces of the Tate. Regardless of what opinions are yet to come, surely it is fair to say that no other work has dwarfed and demanded the Dunveen space like that of Fiona Banner. less controversial that some of her previous works, harrier and Jaguar subconsciously question the destruction of war, and how something indeed so beautiful can be so feared and destructive.Running until January 2011 Tate Britain.

Notes on Nightlife

Are you obsessed with NYC nightlife? Do you like your gossip to be as witty as it is informative? Manhattan-based writer Molly Young has begun chronicling the goings-on at hotspots like Le Bain and the Thompson LES hotel, offering lingerie model sightings and quips about the musical choices of hipster DJs, all with a distinct literary feel. Young, who has previously written for everyone from Vice to n+1 to More Intelligent Life (and who maintains a wonderful blog of her own) manages to capture the high-voltage mood of the New York party scene while remaining detached enough to keep her observations accurate and objective. For example, at a fragrance release party: “Beyond the girlie scrim of activity—the Givenchy dress blowing in the wind, the models dancing to Justin Bieber's ‘Baby’—there are in fact men ordering manly drinks, quietly absorbing the view and ignoring trays of mini-desserts.” Young takes something fascinating and makes it even more so; if you like party reports done with a critical eye, make sure to check out her column on the Details website.

Have You Been To The Future? We Have..

Futurism has inspired a lot of designers clothing lines these past few months, the runway is where you really catch sight of this futuristic fashion trend. You can't miss it, look out for the metallic colors, raised collars and crazy big sleeves. It almost makes the models look robotic.
Iris Van Herpen is one designer in particular that you may want to keep an eye on, his designs certainly do have a futuristic feel. It's a trend that is definitely eye-catching and over the top.

Futuristic clothes are a funky look, yet sometimes a little over the top, the trick is to pick items that have a slight futuristic touch, not a wacky futuristic touch! You want to look out of this world, not from another world! Also remember some stuff you see on the runway has it's place, only on the runway. ;)

The Avett Brothers Live C.D/DVD

On top of the very hefty tour which began yesterday and will continue until the end of October, The Avett Brothers are releasing a new album and DVD.

The live album and DVD entitled: Live Volume 3, was recorded during a Charlotte, NC concert last August. Songs from all previous albums are featured, including the hit “I and Love and You.” The DVD will have extras including interviews with the band.

So if you don’t get a chance to see The Avett Brothers on tour this year, you can at least encounter the magic with the live CD and DVD. Both are to be released on October 5th, 2010. You can pre-order your copy of both here

Feel the Fringe

We all remember how cowboy boots line danced their way into the fashion craze thanks to the movie, Dukes of Hazard. But ladies and gentlemen, the cowboy boot doesn't have to be the only western inspired look. Make room in your summer wardrobe for Zara’s new brown fringe shorts. This staple piece is for the strong, confident, fashionable women – adding a little western Indian glam to her outfit. Designers such as Giambattista and Alexander Wang are leading the frontier with their fringe pieces in their collections.

It can be tricky to match your clothes with fringe. Since it does stand out (in a good way) so match it with anything simple, such as a white, grey, or black colored shirt. Throw on your gladiator sandals and some bangles and you have yourself a unique summer look.

The Bright Orange Pout

Come summer, I’m usually pretty good about retiring my usual winter beauty routine in favor of experimenting with bright makeup colors. There is just something about balmy weather and a tan that makes me especially keen on taking bold beauty risks. This year, however, due to the particularly sticky weather we have been experiencing, my only beauty concern has been not looking gross post morning commute on the New York City transit system. I think it’s about time to step it up though, and the first hot new look I am dying to try is the impossibly bright orange lip. Seen first on the Prada Spring 2010 RTW runway, many Hollywood "It Girls" are currently sporting the look. With this super bright pucker, you won’t need much else in the way of makeup besides a quick swipe of mascara, thus all but eliminating the possibility that you’ll look like a melted popsicle by the time you get to the office. To replicate this shocking hue, try MAC Lipstick in Morange ($14). It will add instant glam to your look and perhaps even make you forget about that armpit in your face on the 6 train.

Cabbages and Frocks

The Cabbages and Frocks Market in the beautiful Marleybone Village, is a splendid alternative to an arty afternoon out and about in the sun, away from the shadier galleries. Noted as being one of the locations of Vogue's secret address book and declared by the Independent as one of the 'Top 50 Best markets', the surroundings, the characters, the atmosphere create a wondrous time out. Offering anarray of products from art to craft to brick and brac to who knowswhat else, it is like an alternative to the legendary Portobello, although much, much smaller.

However, this is the beauty of Cabbages and Frocks it almost feels like a school fair that offers vintage Channel. Quite the school fair, but it is indeed Maryleybone after all. The trick is to keep your eyes open, and of course enjoy yourself. The food and beverages are global and delicious, the only thing that cannot be guaranteed, is the weather, it is London after all.

Take a Bow

Bows have been used in women’s fashion for years now. They are a timeless symbol of femininity for girls of all ages and with all different senses of style. The past few seasons have been focused on androgyny and menswear inspired pieces, so it would seem that such a girly embellishment wouldn’t belong. However, bows are definitely making a comeback. Adding a bow of any sort can add a touch of softness to any outfit, whether it is over or understated. My favorite way to wear this trend is by choosing a piece with a bow-back cutout detail. This is becoming increasingly popular this summer and is appearing everywhere from Forever21 to high-fashion runways. The best thing about the bow-back cutout is that it can be super innocent or super sexy, depending on how you choose to wear it. In addition, every cut-out incorporates the bow shape in a different way. Some pieces have a single large bow-shaped cutout, while others have smaller, consecutive bows that look more like horizontal straps. This way, no two pieces look exactly the same, and there is room for a lot more experimentation. For a cute and classically feminine look, try a bow-back dress in a floral print or a lace fabric. For a sexier feel, try a simple black dress with a larger cutout paired with some spiky heels. Of course, if you’re weary to dive right in, or if the style simply doesn’t work for you, you can always incorporate the trend in other ways with some jewelry, shoes, or a handbag. However, so many different styles are currently available that it will be pretty hard for you to not find one you love!

"Like shooting a fish in a barrel. There was no way I could miss it."

Anna Wintour Editor-in-Chief of Vogue takes fashion residency as part of Alex Katz first and hugely anticipated first solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London. The chosen works of Katz exhibition range from a group portrait of New York intelligentsia at a cocktail party to portraits of Katz's friends and family, including a portrait of his life-long muse and his wife Ada. But, it is the portrait of Wintour which is a new and hugely sucessful approach for Katz. Capturing Anna unusually without her signature sunglasses, Katz became interested in Wintour during the September issue documentry when he noticed her 'lovely eyes. Sitting for her first painting Katz described Wintours visit to his New York Studio as, "like shooting a fish in a barrel. There was no way I could miss it." The bright yellow background and use of colour, softens the harsh associations of Wintours public character and creates a softer intriguing personality. This exhibition explians exactly why Alex Katz is deemed as one of the most exceptional painters of our time. Seeing Studs

Studded clothing and accessories have been in for a while, and it appears that this trend is here to stay- at least through the summer. This season, the studded spotlight is on shoes. Almost every kind of shoe out there (whether it be pumps, flats, sandals, or boots) is available embellished with some sort of studs. Studded shoes give of an edgy vibe even when standing alone, so dressing them up or down is all a part of the fun. The studs themselves come in all different varieties, some of the most popular being small, spiky, and jeweled. The best part about this trend is that there are a pair of studded shoes to suit every style, no matter how low-key our out there it may be. If your style is girly, try a pair of high heeled Mary Janes or a sandal with another embellishment like a flower or some ruffles. The subtle sprinkle of studs makes you look tougher without stealing the spotlight. If you go for a more androgynous look, try some studded oxfords! The two trends really compliment each other, as the studs make these schoolboy shoes a lot more glamorous. For those who are constantly on their feet, a simple pair of flats can come alive with the addition of a few sparkly studs- taking your look to the next level of street chic. Or, for those who are true rockers at heart, a pair of extreme chunky wedges or peep-toe booties covered in a layer of studs will give you what you need to complete your wardrobe! No matter who you are or how you dress, studded shoes are a must-have this season.

Model Watch Monday: Italian Stallion Francesco Brunetti

Francesco hails from Italy but definitely captures that "All America" look. Okay, so maybe the Varsity jacket is helping a bit.

There is this aura about him that screams Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, perhaps even Calvin Klein. This might be why he spent a successful show season in Milan walking for Armani and Ermanno Scervino.  So, with that said, I see some editorials happening in the near future for this stunner.  Perhaps a fragrance campaign [for one of the above said designers] in the near future, remember I said that!  After all Francesco's sex appeal meter is at an all time high, there is no doubt this boy is smoking and ready to work. Be sure to keep Francesco on your radar, we are!

Francesco is currently only signed with FASHION in Milan. I wonder what NYC agency is going to snatch him up.

Coney Island's Siren Music Festival

Coney Island is famous for many things such as its hot dogs, beach, and amusement park. However, Coney Island is also famous for holding one of the biggest summer music festivals: Siren Music Festival.

Siren Fest is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year with a line-up that is sure to please. Bands such as: Matt and Kim, Harlem and Ponytail along with eleven others will perform. There is also a after party held at the Music Hall of Williamsburg which We Are Scientists is headlining.

Bands as: The Killers, Morningwood, and Death Cab For Cutie have all played Siren Fest in the past. There is food, as well as local bars right near the stages.

The festival is taking place on July 17th in Coney Island, Brooklyn. It starts at noon and ends around 9:00 p.m. It usually attracts about 100,000 fans a year, so get there early to hold a sweet spot by the two stages, oh and don't forget to bring water!

Concert For Equality by Conor Oberst

The Arizona SB 1070 act is the strictest anti-illegal immigration legislation act in the United States at the moment. It has been the cause of a lot of controversy and Conor Oberst has joined a number of artists who are boycotting the act.

In attempt to gain more supporters for the boycott, he along with his band Bright Eyes have organized a block-party style concert: Concert For Equality in Benson, Nebraska. The concert will be held on July 31 and all proceeds will benefit the American Civil Liberties Union’s fight against fining employers and landlords who employ and rent to illegal immigrants in the state of Nebraska.

Even if you don't agree with his political views, it should be a good show. A number of bands have already signed up for the concert including: Cursive and Lullaby for the Working class. Oberst will also reunite with his band Desaparecidos.

Many of you, I’m sure, left your tie-dye wearing days behind you in middle school during that summer you realized you were too old for sleep away camp. The Canadian Tuxedo

Denim on denim can look two ways - really good or REALLY bad! Otherwise known as, denim on denim has been displayed on many fashion blogs, runways, and magazines throughout the years. However, not everyone can pull off this trend – like everything in fashion, it has to be done right. By many critics, denim on denim can be typically seen as tacky or unfashionable. However, the fact it's seen as 'low fashion', make today's top designers want to perfect the impossible look. It's fairly easy to put this outfit together, but you'd need some basic accessories. Mix it up by wearing a brown suede belt and gladiator sandals to add a little more color, remember to use just enough and not go overboard.

This past 4th of July weekend, as I was soaking up the rays on Long Beach Island, I couldn’t help but notice all the fun beach accessories worn by my fellow sun worshippers. There were glamorous shades and bright bikinis but what really caught my eye were all the chic beach bags. A friend I was with had an adorable but sturdy straw tote she found on the streets of Kenya. Needless to say, all the cute bags around me led to an intense online search for the perfect beach bag once I got home. Without much difficulty I found what I believe to be the most ideal beach bag. Fifty Eight Faces

Fifty eight selected works hang in the National Portrait Gallery as part of the 2010 Portrait awards. The worlds most prestigious portrait competition, it promotes the very best in contemporary portrait painting. A lot of people have started to expect these awards, but any doubting aside the standard of skill is near impossible to fault. For in each composition and sitter the artist has found something intriguing to present and there is a certain sense of something captivating in each of the 58. The winning portrait is Daphne Todds the 'Last Portrait of Mother', Todd painted her mother Annie Mary Todds on her death bed, just after she had reached her 100th birthday. In a competition to this standard where the winning prize is £25,000 the winners and winner are going to be questionable. Perhaps this years winner was significant in seeming to move away from the traditional static association between the painter and the sitter, Todds exploration of a invasive and contemporary theme was a far move easily associated with the contemporary notion of 'art' in 2010. However, the idea that there is anything less exciting or fulfilling than great painting is sadly mistaken. Until September at the Nation Portrait Gallery, London.

Princess Grace

A fitting tribute to a truly remarkable lady. Actress, model, and of course delectable style icon Grace Patricia Kelly takes Centrex stage once more, this time at the Victoria and Albert Museum London. Commonly referred to as Princess Grace, after marrying the Prince of Morocco Grace Kelly was paramount in her role as 'her Serene Highness'. This collection gathers a magnificent array of the stars possessions from jewellery and hats to Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Yves Saint Laurent gowns worn throughout Graces career. Her semblance, charm and magnetism meant that although she retired from the silver screen at 26, to dedicate her time solely to her duties in Morocco. She was still named by the American Film Institute as one of their top female stars in American cinema. She has film clips, photographs, and of course the Oscar statuette won by Kelly in 1954 are on show this exhibition, running until September 26th it should not be missed by those who loved Princess Grace and the allure of her style.

The Revival of a Legend

After the tragic and unexpected loss of Alexander McQueen, one of the most creative and esteemed designers in the fashion industry, many believed that his essence was lost as well. However, after a glimpse of Sarah Burton’s creations for the Alexander McQueen pre-spring 2011 collection, I think that there should be a lot more hope left in all of us. Burton has done a fantastic job of taking McQueen’s signature style (dark glamour with a focus on structure) and giving it her own, more whimsical twist. Inspired by Hans Bellmer’s dolls and samurai warriors, this collection, as explained by Burton, attempts to “juxtapose the pale and the delicate with the bold and armorial. It’s about a highly structured torso that gives way to a more fluid silhouette or drop waists that lead to a finned trouser to skirt.” This vision comes across strikingly well through both the structure and the fabric of each piece. Burton perfectly captures McQueen’s classic tension between the structure and flow of clothing, while attempting to incorporate lightness and femininity. The contrast between pieces such as the armored bodysuit and the nude lace dress works magically, as it showcases an effortless mixture of each designer’s point of view. The pieces in this collection can be worn to events all across the spectrum (the blood-red gown to a Hollywood event, the structured jacket to the office), which makes it so much more marketable than previous collections have been. I am personally very impressed with the collection, and am especially impressed with Sarah Burton’s execution of her vision. She has done an amazing job of subtly weaving her own signature style into a brand that fashion icon Alexander McQueen had so strongly established before his sudden departure.
