Going to Prom With DSquared

The DSquared runway show in Milan reminded us of crashing a sixties high school prom. Designers Dean and Dan Catin set the scene with a “Class of 2013” banner and disco balls. Some of the models casually carried cigarettes in hand, like teenage rebels at prom who would sneak outside to smoke. DSquared featured a collection with a high-end vintage flare, complete with angora sweaters, high-waist skirts, toggle coats, silk cropped pants, doctor bags, and brooches. Most outfits were paired with leather gloves and cat-eye shades. We especially loved the low cut, knuckle-skimming gloves.

The looks in the show combined a tasteful mix of prep and edge; leopard stoles were draped over dresses and oxfords were layered under crew necks. DSquared’s fall 2012 dresses stayed classically chic in solid black, but they kept things exciting with feathered waists and tuxedo-bow accents. Our favorites were the jackets, especially the Tiffany-blue, floor-length coat with jeweled buttons and the bright green croc jacket. Monday’s show integrated everything we love about old-school glamour and modern-day style.

Styling at DSquared Fall 2012

If you're not familiar with dynamic brothers Dean and Dan Caten, then you should know that they are forces to be reckoned with. Their DSquared label has both an outdoorsy look, featuring fur trim and tons of plaid, and a glamour-meets-rock appearance, featuring badass biker jackets, hand-stitched denim, and deconstructed corsets. All of these major identifications make the designers stand out.

While their clothes appeal to fashionistas who want to add the perfect amount of edge to their look, there was just as much effort put into the backstage beauty.

The design team decided to style hair and makeup in a way that referenced the sixties. All of the models were powdered from their contoured cheekbones to their eyelids. Swept across the eyelids was the Blacktrack Fluid Eye Liner Gel from MAC cosmetics, which shaped the top of the lids for a cat-eye effect. The black eye liner was also applied to the bottom of the lids and the brows to create a bushy effect that was seen on every housewife of that era.

On-staff hairstylist Sam McKnight used Pantene Pro-V products, like the Volume Mousse and the Extra Strong Mousse, on damp hair to get an intensified "bump it" look. The models deserved a medal for walking the runway with what probably felt like another head on top of their own. The hairdos looked like the pinned-back beehive from the sixties.

China Glaze Creates Hunger Games Capitol Colours

Fans of The Hunger Games may not be able to see the highly anticipated film for another month, but China Glaze is making the wait easier with its new "Hunger Games: Capitol Colours" nail polish collection.

The shades are based on various elements of the extremely popular book series. Some represent the different districts; others stand for characters or the costumes they wear in the film. The polish names have changed, since China Glaze only decided to collaborate with The Hunger Games last year, so it will take a true aficionado to understand their associations with the series.

The collection contains twelve shades, most of which are glitter polishes. The colors range from "Agro," a sparkly army green; to "Mahogany Magic," a light reddish brown; to "Riveting," a fiery, shimmering orange. For those who prefer less daring colors, "Capitol Colours" also offers shades such as "Dress Me Up," a dusty rose, and "Foie Gras," a dark taupe, both with crème finishes.

The polishes will be released on March 1, so there is plenty of time to sit back, relax, and perfect a design to wear for the midnight showing.

Get Your Accessories in the Pocket

This Maine-based jewelry designer literally has balls to put out this line of baubles. Well, at least balls were the unusual medium for a line of accessories by plastic-works wonder woman Eleanor Salazar. While her inspiration is obvious in her round billiard-ball rings, she cleverly disguises this dive-bar staple in her multi-colored hoop earrings, and one of our personal favorites, the Wide Orange Peel ring, which is a chunky, textured bit of bling hand carved from a used pool ball. (Yes, it comes in both stripes and solids.)

Hardly a hustler, Salazar started using pool balls when she was searching for recycled materials to use in lieu of constantly casting new plastic. Since all of her jewelry had a previous life on the felt, the designer prefers to leave the marks from where the balls have been hit by each other in her finished pieces, for a little dash of personality. Colorblocking With James Long

Colorblocking is a trend that isn't unheard of this season, even in menswear. The designers at J.Crew and Band of Outsiders both implemented this stylistic approach in their collections. But, as everyone knows, fashion is ever-changing and evolving, and it seems that the designers at James Long have taken the idea of colorblocking to a different level. The design team featured three blocks of dark color on several different designs, making them look almost like an avant-garde layer cake.

The trifectas of unorthodox autumn colors were a visual focal point on many of the collection’s designs. Texture was also a prominent aspect of the collection, and different fabrics were blended together to create practical looks that will be more than appropriate for the breezy autumn days to come. In several designs, texture and colorblocking were fused together to create looks that incorporated everything James Long is about.

Bold, daring, or sexy, the adjective is up to you. Just know that James Long had a winner in this collection.

10.Deep Pre-Spring 2012

10.Deep has been a major player in the street wear clothing realm for years. In preparation for their spring 2012 collection, which is due out in about two months, the designers have produced a capsule collection as an appetizer for their consumers.

Released on February 24, the pre-spring collection stays true to what we expect from 10.Deep, as they continue to provide great jackets, hoodies, button downs, shawls, and graphic tees. Also included in the menswear line are accessories like daypacks, snapbacks, canvas caps, and wallets.

Filled with color to bring in spring, the graphic-based capsule offers lightweight pieces that play on current themes. With an extremely warm winter, this prelude to the full spring launch will give you a head start on your wardrobe if you are a streetwear fan. Even if you are not a fan, do not fret, because the pieces in this collection can be mixed and matched, due to their wide range of patterns. Plaid, fatigue, and stripes are all seen throughout the collection.

All Is Juicy and Bright With Juicy Couture

If something is juicy, then couture cannot be too far behind. Spring has breathed new life into one of America’s most established brands, Juicy Couture. However, these tricked-out Juicy numbers are not meant for mall walking. Instead, they meant for a glamorous romp on a yacht by chance.

Juicy Couture creative director LeAnn Nealz is steering the couture ship onto a whole new course. Juicy’s spring ready-to-wear line has the urban, preppy, nautical look down pat. Pops of navy, burst of sweet reds, and dollops of pinks give this design confection a whole new outlook. Nautical stripes on everything from casual dresses to beach rompers may just be the ticket to transitioning from a spring fling to a summer romance. Don't be afriad to take the leap!

Emporio Armani Ready-to-Wear Fall 2012

The Emorio Armani fall 2012 RTW collection was both serious and whimsical. It began with dark grays and blacks and later embraced reds, blues, purples, and even plaids. This change of color and attitude resulted in a line that was young and casual, yet remained sophisticated.

Present in nearly every look were slim-cut and cuffed pants that ended right at the knee. While many refer to them as knickers or britches, the show called them Bermudas. Giorgio Armani also included a ton of rosettes and dots in his collection.

Ruffles, berets, and colored tights also made appearances in the "Little Winter Follies" show. As for fabrics, Armani went for the unexpected by featuring velvet and taffeta. Overall, the collection mixed the twenties with the eighteenth century and added a splash of bohemian flare. As the show notes described it, the styling on the Milan runway was made to add “fun little touches of pure fantasy.”

Looks by Larissa: Black and Tan

The chilly afternoon sunlight filtered through the clouds as a friend and I took a walk outside by the wooded area around the house. This day reminded me of crips autumn days, so I opted for a soft brown suede vintage blazer, which is the perfect blend of classy and laid back. I’ve found that suede blazers are relatively easy to come by when you're vintage shopping, so keep an eye out for them!

My leather wedges are from Aldo and I adore them; they are so simple and basic. The heel gives me extra height, but they are not ridiculously tall, which makes them great for day wear because you can rock them with anything from pants to a little black dress. The basic gray and black-striped top is from H&M, which is my go-to for almost all of my basics. Lately, I've been into high-waisted, wide-leg jeans, so I found some old vintage Levi's and rolled them up. Ta-da, comfy, fabulous jeans!

A Sweet Send Off for Jil Sander’s Raf Simons

Is there any greater reward than a standing ovation led by Anna Wintour? That’s how the fashion world bade farewell (for now) to Jil Sander’s creative director Raf Simons at his final runway show this past Saturday in Milan. The hearty applause was well deserved, as Simons ended his six-and-a-half-year stint at the label with a gorgeous, clean collection that maintained Jil Sander’s signature minimalist feel with a soft, feminine flair. Starting out with a pastel palette which slowly made room for splashes of red, metallic silver, and glossy black, the designer showed voluminous wool coats paired with body-conscious, lingerie-like dresses (not to mention fabulous separates and jumpsuits). Though expertly understated, the line certainly was not without a wow factor, from clever front cutouts to a stunning structured black dress quite possibly made from the same material as the rubber suit in American Horror Story.

The 44-year-old Belgian designer’s departure comes after an announcement that founder Jil Sander will return as the creative director of her eponymous line on Monday. As excited as we are to see Sander back at the helm, Simons's brilliant showing on Saturday proved that he’ll be greatly missed. But there is some good news. Rumors are buzzing that Sander’s surprise move makes it all the more likely that Simons will take the reins at Dior, since the fashion house infamously ousted John Galliano after his controversial comments. One thing’s for sure: Wherever Raf Simons goes, the fashion world will follow.

A Look Ahead: Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week will take place from February 28 to March 7. The event is known for showing plenty of couture and vintage looks. Throughout the week, some of the biggest names in fashion will be showing off their new collections, so here is a rundown of the schedule.

On March 1, Nina Ricci will be on the runway along with Balenciaga. On March 2 and March 3, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Vivienne Westwood will all show their collections. The last four days in Paris are loaded with well-known and respected designers, including Stella McCartney, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu, and Louis Vuitton.

Milan Fashion Week Streetwear

Milan Fashion Week is in full swing, and so far, the trend in focus is streetwear. We have seen plenty of prints and bold colors on the Milan runways. Along with casual looks, we have spotted several blazers and cute, chunky accessories.

Versace's collection was very different from the other trends we have been seeing, and it included pieces that were dark- and metal-colored. There were also leather, velvet, and corset tops. For the most part, the collection was all black with hints of bright yellow.

Prada's show focused more on tailored looks, with bright colors like orange brightening up pantsuits and casual work attire. Prada also mixed patterns and added bold accessories to their work attire.

Moschino RTW Fall 2012

Toy soldiers, marching bands, and the Pink Panther could all describe the inspiration for Moschino’s fall 2012 collection. With such a complex description, one may conclude that the collection was wide-ranging, diverse, or all over the place. Each assumption would be correct, but in Moschino’s case, it worked.

Gold accents, double-breasted military jackets, clutches, and mini dresses with ruffles upon ruffles were featured in the line’s runway show. Cropped jackets paired with miniskirts, hooped earrings, zippers, chain-link details, and an array of gloves were also present.

Materials like fur, leather, cashmere, brass, and feathers all appeared in the collection, designed by Rossella Jardini. Described as a parade by Jardini, the ready-to-wear collection was colorful, bold, and fun.

Extremely daring and borderline “out there,” this collection may only work for the experienced fashionista unafraid of taking risks. With great options for everyday errands and evening events, Moschino’s RTW fall 2012 collection should be considered when you're putting together an awesome wardrobe for the coming months.

Estée Lauder Launches 'Mad Men' Collection

Fans of AMC's hit show, "Mad Men," may not get the chance to try out the Belle Jolie lipsticks featured prominently in some of the earliest episodes, but they can thank Estée Lauder for giving them the next best thing.

The beauty giant has paired up with show creator Michael Weiner to create a limited-edition makeup collection. The Mad Men Collection will consist of Crème Rouge in Evening Rose, a beautiful medium-pink blush, and Signature Lipstick in Cherry, a classic cherry-red lipstick.

The cosmetics company has drawn inspiration from the sixties for the packaging and the products themselves, taking special care to turn them into items that any woman would be proud to draw from her purse. The compact and lipstick tube are both gilded, and they come in boxes with elegant turquoise and gold floral designs.

The ad campaign will launch on the Bloomingdale's and Estée Lauder websites next month, where the products will be exclusively available for purchase. The collection's debut corresponds with the beginning of the show's fifth season, and another makeup line is already in the works for the sixth.

Following the show's previous successes, with apparel for Banana Republic and nail polish for Nailtini, it will come as no surprise if the Estée Lauder limited-edition collection becomes a mad sensation.

Looks by Larissa: Leather and Denim

My friend Emilie and I set out for a shopping adventure with the goal of finding her a perfect Levi’s light-wash jean jacket. I accompanied her down the street in my treasured vintage button-up shirt with an amazing mix of colors. I like this top because it is noticeable but doesn't complicate an outfit. My boots have a story behind them.

I got them on a family visit to the East Coast. I picked up these lace-up, vintage leather boots in Urban Outfitters that were exactly my size. After trying them on, the store clerk told me that they looked perfect. Needless to say, I happily bought them, and for the rest of the trip, they were staple items for all of my outfits. Emilie also got her lucky break here, since when we walked into Urban Outfitters in Portland, she soon found a perfect Levi's jacket! I've found that leather boots and jean jackets are timeless vintage items that always make an outfit.

Easy Ways to Glam Up Your Outfit

There are days when a fashionista doesn’t have the time or energy to put together an amazing, stop-in-your-tracks outfit. But never fear, because here are five easy ways to bring some glamour to basics. 

1) Belts: Throwing on a wide or skinny belt instantly brings dimension to your ensemble while defining your waist. Bonus points are awarded for fun neon colors. 

2) Statement pieces: Who doesn’t love a conversation-starting accessory? Pairing a cool bag or a piece of statement jewelry with a plain outfit is a fun way to bring your look up a few levels.

3) Heels: It doesn't get any simpler than stepping into a pair of high heels. They look great with everything, from dresses to jeans. Grab a pair of color-blocked heels if you really want to make a splash. 

4) Mixed proportions: Fit is important, but it’s not the end all, be all in fashion. Highlight your best assets by giving them the fitted treatment. If you want to show off your stems, wear a loose, print top with skinny jeans. 

5) Changed-up hair: Your hair greatly influences your look. Try a different style temporarily, or make it permanent if you're feeling daring, or add an accessory. Embellished buns are all the rage right now.

Dress Like a Beckham

English Spice Girl-turned-superstar designer Victoria Beckham proved that she and her clothing lines have a place in the big league of fashion, literally. Beckham is now a full-fledged mother of four and a working designer whose fall 2012 runway collection was inspired by the great American pastime. Inspiration from her son’s baseball uniform trickled down into her designs.

The sporty look was evident in her on-point Peter Pan collars, which were visible on many of her garments. But the sportiness did not stop there. Beckham’s designs had fluid, athletic forms with clean and precise lines, which would not be out of the ordinary in her wardrobe. Her Victoria Beckham line has not only won praise from the previous New York Fashion Week, but it is also tearing up the red carpet this year, as many starlets have been sporting the label.

It would then make sense for the Brit designer to launch a spin-off line called Victoria. That line has just as much style as its big sister, but for a lot less money. The looks only include dresses for now, but leave it to Beckham to deliver more. Given the chance, who wouldn't “bend it like Beckham” by dressing like one?

Belstaff Channeled James Bond

Leather and cinched waists seemed to be the focal point of the new Belstaff fall 2012 collection, which was just debuted at London Fashion Week. The collection was dark and almost foreboding with a sense of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven. Plus, edgy didn't even begin to cover this collection. It was like a James Bond villain with a style that could actually thwart the hero’s plans.

Whatever piece of literature or cinematography may have inspired these looks, everyone agreed that they look darn good. It was a new twist on the fall season, because everyone seems to think that fall means browns, oranges, and reds. That is, everyone but the designers over at Belstaff, who decided the season called for black leather and long trench coats.

So, get your James Bond on with these looks, but keep in mind that looking this good will not make you inconspicuous. Everyone will be staring at you, more than a few of them with envy.

Banding Together for Fall

Blair Waldorf can breathe a sigh of relief, because headbands are officially back in fashion. Straight from the  runways at New York and London fashion weeks, these longtime preppy staples will stick around for awhile. This time, they're getting a cool new makeover.

Last week, at the Doo Ri show, famed hairstylist Orlando Pita predicted that the headband would be huge for fall. He gave the trend a head start by adorning models on the New York runways with the accessory. For a cool, edgy feel at Carolina Herrera, he backcombed the models' hair, wrapping it with black skinny elastic bands. A more girlish, doll-like look was achieved by placing bedazzled satin ribbons on voluminous faux bobs at Oscar de la Renta.

Pita's prediction took flight and landed on the runways of London, thanks to fellow hairstylist Sam McKnight. Turning the classic headband into a boho-chic statement, he used black twisted bands on messy chignons at Clements Ribeiro. The style was easily transferred to Moschino Cheap and Chic, where McKnight used bands in shades of pastel over sixties-era beehives.

Fashion icon and "it girl" Alexa Chung rocked a headband for Emma Hill's Mulberry party, almost guaranteeing its style status. It's still undecided about whether Milan and Paris will jump on the headband bandwagon. Regardless, even if you're not an internationally renowned icon, it couldn't hurt to start hunting for them.

Coats of Many Colors From Meadham Kirchhoff

Meadham Kirchhoff's collection was definitely one of the most outrageous runway shows we’ve seen in the past two weeks. When it comes to London style, designers Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff say “anything goes,” and everything about their latest show stayed true to that mantra. From the blue face paint to the orange curls, with the mixture of fur and sequins, the looks from this show reminded us of New York club kids in the eighties.

Each ensemble definitely required a closer look. The pieces were uniquely designed on their own, like the patchy fur coat with the cherry prints. It's definitely a style that's hated or loved. But, with all of the gray, black, and navy trending for the fall season, this colorful collection grabbed plenty of attention. Meadham Kirchhoff’s fall 2012 RTW line will make autumn feel more like summer in its tidal wave of bright shades.

Riding With Jonathan Saunders

Expectations were high for Jonathan Saunders' fall 2012 runway show at London Fashion Week. After all, the Glasgow-born designer was presented with the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund award just a few short weeks ago. Saunders proved that the prestigious nod was well-earned with the debut of his equestrian-themed fall collection, which stomped down the runway on Sunday evening. The noted print designer showed off his textile savvy with dizzying geometric patterns of embossed fabrics and oversized florals, which really helped his expertly tailored riding jackets shine.

Though they wore well-cut coats, knee-high boots, and ponytails, many of his models looked as if they could have just as easily ridden down the catwalk on horseback. Saunders' looks weren't too exclusive, as he managed to explore more than one country-club aesthetic. From golf-course friendly visors to pleated skirts and prim dresses (leaving out the sheer-top number that made the J. Lo's deep-plunge Grammys dress look modest), each outfit was blue-blood approved.

Streetwear Brand Obey Collaborates With Graffiti Artist

Streetwear brand Obey is well known for their artistic collaborations, and for their spring 2012 collection, they have joined forces with respected artist Curtis Kulig. Kulig, a New York graffiti artist whom you may know from his “Love Me” tags found all over the city, has lent his trademark stamp to the brand.

In the collection, Obey stays true to its roots by producing quality tees and denim, but they also feature a lightweight military jacket, a beanie, and an oxford shirt. Also included are swimsuits, cardigans, painter’s shorts, tanks, and a duffle bag.

Available now, the collection’s price points range from $23 to $167 and will surely give you a unique look this spring.

Mulberry Shows Lana Del Rey Some Love

Singer Lana Del Rey may have suffered a heavy backlash from audiences following her SNL performance, but Mulberry has lovingly embraced her. For Mulberry's show at London Fashion Week, the line premiered its latest bag inspired by the muse, the Del Rey.

The Del Rey is a white leather bag with Mulberry’s trademark gold hardware. Since Alexa Chung gained mainstream recognition after inspiring Mulberry's Alexa bag, perhaps the fashion world could become Lana Del Rey's saving grace.

Along with naming a bag after her, Mulberry sat Lana in the front row of their runway show, along with Michelle Williams and Elizabeth Olsen. She performed at the after party with a piano instead of a band. Mulberry says that the 25-year-old has "the style of Old Hollywood," and creative director Emma Hill was “captivated by her soulful, melancholy voice and the nostalgic beauty of her 'Video Games' single and [music] video.” Lana Del Rey’s musical talent may be controversial among critics, but the bag she inspired, which starts at $1,250, is agreeably chic.

Tommy Hilfiger Classically Inspires

“Classic inspiration, modern interpretation” is the way the branders at Tommy Hilfiger have described their new fragrance for men, Eau De Prep, whose literal translation is "water in prep." What can that possibly mean? Does it represent the fluidity in the Hilfiger brand, or does it represent the seamless merger of the “classic prep” Hilfiger prep attitude and its “new spirit”?

Explanation of the name aside, Tommy Hilfiger once again turned out a fragrance that is sure to be a success. Even its packaging seems to represent the class and elegance that has become synonymous with the Hilfiger brand. The cologne is featured in a tall glass bottle, embellished with gold and wrapped with the signature Hilfiger red, white, and navy blue.

Available at Macy’s for instant gratification or online at the official Tommy Hilfiger website, this fragrance is modestly priced at $65.

Let's step fashionably into the new spring season with a pair of tri-tone shoes that will surely become your new wardrobe essential! Whether they are available in bold, bright colors or a mixture of sophisticated neutrals, this trending footwear is bound to make heads turn. These heels bring a certain kind of twist to the well-known trend called color blocking that we all know and love. Looks by Larissa: Casual Maxi

As the rays of sun peeked through another cloudy Portland day, I could not help but don my full-length maxi dress as I headed out for a cup of coffee before tackling the reading for my Monday classes. This dress is from H&M and it is super basic. It can be worn with a belt or even with a shirt, transforming it into a full-length skirt. I decided to pair it with my favorite leather belt that my mother gave to me as a gift. You can never go wrong when raiding your parents’ closets, because there are always some major finds like this belt. I have never found another one like it!

The necklace is also special. Over my last spring break, I traveled to Mexico and purchased it at one of the numerous jewelry vendors lining the beach. Its simple and eye-catching shape and color are what I love about it. I would encourage anyone to purchase a pendant, as it can add an extra element to any outfit.

Candy-Coated Accessories

A few bold and bright statement pieces are perfect for the ambiance of spring. A mixture of pink, orange, and yellow make a spring palette very reminiscent of candy, because it's sweet and a little bit tart at the same time! The colors vary, of course, but they coordinate very well. 

With the addition of just a few items, you can add sparkle and glam to the simplest one-piece garments, such as maxi dresses, jumpsuits, and rompers. That’s not too difficult, right? Going for a neutral colored one-piece would be chic and ultra-charming. It would provide a great amount of balance to these bright accessories. Wondering what neutral colors would fit best? Go for a tan or a nice, crispy white.

Antoni and Alison's 'Models Walking'

Fashion duo Antoni Burakowski and Alison Roberts kicked off London Fashion Week with their latest collection, "Models Walking Up and Down in Dresses."  The name may sound a bit simple, but the collection certainly did not disappoint.

Whimsical, lightweight dresses with fun patterns and playful collages provided this collection with a wide range of wearability.

"We wanted to keep it really simple and show people what we do - no magic, get away from the 'quirk,'" Burakowski said in an interview with Vogue.

Clearly, simple works for the fashion tandem, who are in their 25th year together, and after a seven-year hiatus from London Fashion Week, they returned with a big splash.

"It felt right to do this," Burakowski said. "We became interested in the catwalk again and the idea of girls walking up and down."

Gisele's New Sandal Collection

A year after her first collaboration with Ipanema, supermodel Gisele Bundchen is back with another sandal collection. The shoes, which are glamorous flip flops, are a perfect fit for spring. Her Blossom Collection takes inspiration from "delicateness, femininity, and beauty of flowers." The shoes are even eco-friendly. 

As for where you can wear them, that’s just about anywhere. Giselle’s blog says the line "presents four comforting and relaxed feeling styles that are a perfect match for a wide variety of looks. The flowery prints are complemented by a metal finish that gives them a special touch."

The ad campaign was photographed by Jairo Goldflus, and Gisele was styled by Rodrigo Grunfeld, so that she looks just like a flower. What do you think of Gisele’s sandals and the ad’s photo?

Fashion Week Went Neck and Neck With Style

Necks have had opportunities in the past to be wrapped, bundled, and bejeweled with dazzling necklaces and scarves, but New York Fashion Week offered another stylish approach to decking out the neck.

Carolina Herrera, queen of uptown fashion, showed several “neckish” designs for fall. Necks are not just for necklaces any longer, but they are now a place to display a wide array of scarves and structured turtle neck-like garments. Herrera’s fall collection, which was mostly in hues of navy, black and gray, had one thing in common: Intricate neck details. Herrera’s creations were either collars ruffled up to the jawline or garments with matching scarfs. Either way, the look was there.

True, Herrera dressed many of the girls with bundled-up throats, but bare necks were also on display with many of her V-neck elegant gowns. Pick whichever look suits the weather: Wrapped up to brave the cold or exposed to the bare elements.

London Fashion Weeks Brings Entertainment

London Fashion Week has been anything but boring thus far. From models being served on a platter, to bold prints and haircuts, to even a choreographed routine, London is bringing it in entertainment value.

One of the top trends we are seeing in London is severe haircuts with all-black collections. Both John Rocha and Jasper Conran had collections where the models wore large black dresses with short hair cuts. While Conran's collection was based off of the twenties, Rocha's collection had black lace, cutaways, and leg warmers.

Stella McCartney tried something very new with a sit-down dinner fashion show. That doesn't sound too crazy, but the models emerged from the dinner wearing McCartney's collection and had choreography that included them being carried around on chairs through the crowd!

In the upcoming days, there will be shows by some of the biggest names in fashion, including Burberry and Vivienne Westwood.

More Reasons to Love Diane Von Furstenberg

Diane Von Furstenberg won the fashion world over long ago with her fabulous prints and signature wrap dresses, but she's proven over the past few weeks that she has even more to offer. For one, the iconic designer is lending her creative talents to a Gap Kids collection, due in stores this March. The only thing cuter than a bright DVF sheath dress? A baby wearing it.

The line, available for toddlers and girls ages two to fourteen, will take over Baby Gap and Gap Kids soon, but you can snag a sneak peek while you're waiting here. We're already so smitten with the patterned rompers and flats in a rainbow of colors that we're looking into a Benjamin Button–type solution to squeeze into them.

Sandwiched between promotional blasts about her line and appearances are Diane's own inspirational tweets, often denoted by "love Diane." Our favorites? Ab-Tastic Trend

This look may take some courage and a fair amount of self confidence to pull off, but so far this season, the exposed midriff is everywhere. This trend originated in the nineties, but it has recently come back into style. 

Major designers like Nina Ricci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Roland Mouret have sent models down the runway in this look. The key to pulling this off is to keep the belly button covered, which means that the focus is all on your abs. To make that happen, you may have to wear your pants and skirts slightly higher than you normally would.

There is no better way to welcome the warm weather than by showing off some skin. Try bright colors or bold patterns to really make this look stand out.

Whitney Port's Line Makes Its NYFW Debut

On Wednesday, Whitney Eve made its fashion week debut and its designer, Whitney Port, is someone we have all seen grow in the fashion industry. This week, we had the chance to see her grow again, and I have put together a timeline of events leading up to her fall 2012 show and beyond. Also, you get a chance to see her antique kaleidoscope-inspired collection’s show in its entirety. 

February 13: Whitney Port preps for the show at People's Revolution offices, completing last-minute styling changes.

February 14: Whitney begins to finalize the music playlist that the models will walk to during her show. The young designer even asks fans for suggestions to get the correct “mood and vibe.”

February 15: Whitney invites fans backstage (via blog post) hours before her show, giving them a sneak peak behind the scenes of her set and emotions. “I have so many emotions running through my head — I am excited, nervous, proud, anxious, grateful, to name a few, and the butterflies in my stomach have not subsided in days,” she wrote.

After the show, Port took to her blog once again, saying, “I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who came out to my show today. Your support means so much to me and seeing all of your faces in the audience made this day that much more special.”

Marchesa Went Pale

We saw a lot of color at New York Fashion Week. There were dark, romantic colors and bright, summery ones living side by side on the runway, but you didn’t see them at the Marchesa show. 

Instead, the label gave us a sea of creams and golds, with only a splash of red and black here and there. You’d think it would be a little monotonous, but we loved it. The collection looked just that: a collection. The garments flowed easily from one to the next, which is often surprisingly absent from the catwalk. 

And, oh the fabrics! They were rich and luxurious. Add that to the fact that the models entered through a mirrored door with gold edges, and we couldn’t help but feel like we had stepped back in time. The show confirmed, once again, that sheer and wispy fabrics, dainty lace, and twenties-inspired fashion are going to big this fall.

Some Like Messy Hair

Gone are the days of prim, polished, and proper hairdos. There really is no reason to run a brush through your wild mane of hair in the morning; that is, unless Derek Lam has anything to say about it. Lam’s 2012 New York City Fashion Week show had models looking like they had just risen from a rested sleep, or rather a tough night painting the town red. True, these gals' twisted hair reached alarmingly new heights, but they pulled it off somehow. Orlando Pita, Lam’s hairstylist, said of the hair inspiration: “She’s a little bit naughty; she likes to break the rule a bit.” Boy, do Lam’s party girls break all the right rules with their hair held in lose, messy ponies and lots of va-va-volume on top. Lam was able to take fashion to new heights, in more ways than one. Fluff and go, and call it fashion.

The gray day inspired me to wear something cozy as I walked to class through the misty morning. My slouchy Pendleton sweater is both warm and fuzzy, but it also works with almost any other outfit. Its unique blend of greens, reds, and purples makes it stand out, and every time I wear it, my friends never fail to make good comments about it. The shoes I am wearing are my latest purchase, which I am very excited about; I have worn them three times just this week! They are fur-lined, tan leather wedges that I picked up at Aldo’s shoe sale. As all of the stores are preparing for their spring clothing lines, now is a great time to pick up that sweater or pair of boots you’ve been wanting all season. The boots were more then half off, and after quickly trying them on, I was convinced; I even wore them out of the store!

Texture, Texture, and More Texture by Marchesa

As New York Fashion Week comes to an end, there were plenty of designers who were sought after; however, Marchesa was one of the "golden ticket" holders. Marchesa designs are often chosen by the celebrity elite for their red carpet looks. Whether it's a movie premier, the Grammy Awards, or the Academy Awards, they're all looking to be spotted in the dazzling designer's dream. As Marchesa made their NYFW debut recently at the Plaza Hotel on a star studded runway, there were many looks that made fashionistas look twice. The third of the 33 looks caught our eye, and it was certainly impressing all viewers. The photo shot by Giovanni Giannoni shows the cream-colored lace pattern as it graces the off-white sweetheart neck line. It was a once-in-a-lifetime Marchesa look that any celebrity or stylist should snatch up quickly, especially with the Academy Awards quickly approaching!

J.Crew Keeps It Classy

J.Crew has found a style that works for them, and they have stuck to it, which brings to mind the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Now, that mantra doesn’t always fit into the ever-changing world of fashion, but the designers at J.Crew have found a way to make the classical Upper East Side look timeless.

Dark colors and simple patterns that are accented in some looks by color blocking adds something of a contemporary edge to looks that could easily be deemed as too safe. It’s clean and conservative, but versatile. This collection is the perfect starting point for an aspiring fashionisto who is eager to break a few rules, but not quite ready to burst completely out of the fashion closet. Get Adele's Glam Grammy Look

Adele may have walked away with an impressive five Grammys at Sunday's award show, but the recent buzz from viewers and reporters had little to do with the singer's amazing voice, because they could not stop admiring her winning beauty look. The lovely songbird sported fresh, clear skin, smoldering eyes, and red lips. Her hairstyle was stunning, as an update on classic waves with major volume.

To emulate her retro look, start with a clean face and apply your favorite foundation and concealer. Fill in your brows with a pencil that is a couple of shades darker than their actual color. Try a pale champagne shadow over the lid, and line your upper lash line with a thick layer of liquid liner, making sure to wing it out into a cat eye. Curl your lashes and pile on the mascara, then apply false lashes if you have them, concentrating on the outer half of the lash line.

Finish it off with your favorite matte red lipstick, and then you're done with the makeup. To copy the hair, pin it up in large barrel rollers, and make sure to use a root lift spray or tease for extra oomph. Now all you're missing is an invite to the next awards show!

3.1 Phillip Lim: Incognito Super Heroes

At the 3.1 Phillip Lim show yesterday, the runway looks combined powerful contrasting neutrals with textures. Most of the looks had crisp, tailored jackets and pants with a razor-sharp crease. Although we’ve seen some very colorful fall 2012 lines, this was not one of them. The pops of color didn’t come up until later in the show, with a few orange and turquoise accents. Lim’s RTW line was made of mainly black, cream, beige, and gray. The inspiration? Lim said it was the “modern-day superheroes walking around us every day.”

Models walked the runway in pointy pumps and boots through a fog machine. Like the structured pieces, the patterns on the clothes were geometric. Thick, chunky sweaters softened the theme in some of the looks, but the show had an overall theme of power. Appropriately, plenty of caped jackets were part of the theme. This collection has plenty of subtle “day” looks for the modern super heroine.

Hats Off to Marc Jacobs

It’s impossible to predict what Fashion Week staple Marc Jacobs will send down the runway, but one thing’s for sure — it will be a can’t-miss catwalk. His highly anticipated showing at New York Fashion Week on Monday was no exception. Expertly layering floral brocades, knobby knits, and splashes of not-so-subtle sparkle, the line’s eponymous designer topped off each look with oversized fur hats created by milliner Stephen Jones. Even though they were totally yet wonderfully over the top (so much so that New York Times fashion critic Derek Blasberg affectionately referred to them as “furry, fantastical pimp hats”), they still failed to distract from each outfit, especially his to-die-for jackets, oversized paisley prints, and fall 2012’s new must-have: wool stoles.

Set on a delicate winter wonderland backdrop that screamed Tim Burton (read: Mad Hatter) meets Charles Dickens, Marc Jacobs played up his Victorian inspiration with tacked-on bustles, updated tweeds, and oversized shoe buckles. What can we say? Our Great Expectations were met.

Band of Outsiders Bonanza at NYFW

The Band of Outsiders fall 2012 collection was recently debuted at New York Fashion Week, and the first word that comes to mind is “Yeehaw!” Somehow, the designers found a way to take traditionally Western looks and patterns and turn them into something cool and contemporary. Scarves with horses stitched into them and a suit with horses branded into it is an idea more easily digested if your grandmother was the designer.

But by some stroke of hidden genius, the collection pulls these looks off, and there is something delightfully rugged about these looks. The sandy western colors and the bold Native American prints stand out against the cactus greens and fiery sunset oranges that were so easily incorporated. It makes you think of Mr. Ben Cartwright from Bonanza with a refreshing 2012 edge. While it’s doubtful that you’ll actually go out on a wagon caravan anytime soon, you can certainly trick someone into thinking so with these great new looks.

Looks By Larissa: Luxe Fur Jacket

I walked downtown with friends this Saturday and dropped into Nordstrom’s Rack. I was drawn to the coat section, permeated as it was with this season’s luxe furs, but this faux fur Democracy jacket stood apart; it is so soft and warm. I love the way it’s draped, and it is truly a unique piece. I wore it out of the store because I couldn’t resist waiting one more moment, and it was the perfect way to complete my outfit, an H&M basic black dress.

This dress is so simple, but the cut and lines are flattering. It can be dressed up with the right accessories or worn by itself for a super casual aesthetic! My leg warmers were also purchased at H&M. They are comfy and easily adjustable. To top it off, I wore my favorite boots from Dolce Vita. After my excursion downtown, several of my friends complimented me on my recent purchase, which only made me fall more in love with it!
