If Pantone Color Institute’s pick for color of the year, the bold hue Tangerine Tango, is any indication, fashion houses are looking on the bright side in 2012. And now you can take your pick of neon shades without venturing out into the cold. New Way to Shine on New Year's

Ah, New Year’s Eve, the one night it’s actually possible not to stand out in a sequined dress. Knotted Knits in 'Wires'

Jantine van Peski's twelve-piece "Wires 10.0" collection focuses on craftsmanship and silhouette with attention to the materials and techniques used to create a piece. The Dutch designer graduated  in 2011 from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp with a master of arts degree after studying at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute.Textile sculptures from the seventies — and specifically the macramé technique — are where she draws influence from. The starting point to construct intricate pieces of clothing out of cord and yarn is straight from the body, using only one type of knot.

Van Peski's collection consists of extravagant garments that, in most cases, are only constructed from knotting. The designer's main focus is to balance handcrafted pieces with the minimalist design of the garment. The knotted pieces consist of 100 percent yarn or blended merino wool. Some pieces are made completely out of woolen yarn, fine leather, heavy wools, and thin silks.

Yummy Macaron-Inspired Makeup From Ladurée

Suede, Stacked, Strapped, and Sparkling

We’re conditioned to believe that what we wear on our feet to parties should be limited to our sexiest of heels. However, these pumps by Opening Ceremony par Robert Clergerie (made with suede, a stacked heel, an ankle strap, and sparkling flair) have more school girl charm than they do sex appeal, and they're surprisingly fitting for the party scene.

Female Drummer Named Face of Boy Chanel Campaign

Recent chatter in the fashion world has suggested that Thrush Metal drummer Alice Dellal may be the new face of Chanel's Boy Chanel handbag collection campaign. The House of Chanel has now confirmed that the half-shaved head model will be the face of the campaign. Dellal can be typically seen wearing ripped jeans, biker jackets, and fishnet tights. It seems that her grunge style has influenced creative director Karl Lagerfeld to create a handbag line that rebels against the traditional ideas of womanliness. It was said that Dellal represents the perfect incarnation of all that is unique about the Boy Chanel handbag collection.

The ad campaign will be released in early March. Expect to see the edgier side of Chanel drawing inspirations from heavy black eyeliner, braids, and the looks seen at the Metiers D'Art fashion show earlier this month.

Dellal is the sister of the fabulous shoemaker Charlotte Olympia and has previously been seen in ad campaigns for Mango and Agent Provocateur.

War of the Wedges: Derek Lam vs. Ivanka Trump

As the saying goes, fashion is “often imitated but never duplicated.” Unfortunately, that isn’t the case this time around, since there are seemingly identical pairs of wedges currently on the market. There is a brewing legal battle as Derek Lam recently took action against Ivanka Trump by accusing her of knocking off his footwear. 

An employee of Lam’s was browsing Bloomingdales’s site when they recognized Trump’s Cadie wedge sandals ($150) as a replica of Lam’s Ayami wedges ($780). Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann, CEO of Derek Lam, stated “We have seen very similar copies before, but we have never seen a shoe that perfectly copied.” Now Lam’s legal team is demanding Trump pull the shoes off shelves.

We look forward to hearing Trump's defense as these are pretty harsh allegations against the sartorial credibility of her brand. But scandal aside, we want to know – who do you think produced a better wedge?

All That Glitters in 2012

Sure, right now Christmas shopping is important and all, but chances are that many women's retail priority is nabbing the perfect New Year’s Eve dress. But once the ball drops and the hangover subsides, what will you do with that stunning sequined mini dress? Don’t keep it tucked away in the back of your closet — the glitter trend will be far from over in 2012. Santa-Worthy Lips: Our Red Shade Picks for the Holidays

Kissable red lips are pretty much the definition of "holiday beauty" — aside from sparkle, of course. However, finding the perfect shade of the crimson hue can be a total nightmare. Luckily, we have done a little lipstick research of our own to help you out on your red hot hunt. Below are our top two picks for this season's best red lipsticks. We love these shade because they both have excellent long wearability, and the color is perfect!

Perfect Red Lip for the Holidays

Most Expensive Fashion Items of 2011

While fearless fashion leaders were purchasing must-have Louboutins of the moment, others were splurging on the most expensive fashion items of 2011. As the year comes to an end, it's only right to review these extravagant items. The pieces range from Marilyn Monroe's iconic white dress to 24-karat gold shoelaces.

If one extremely wealthy individual were to purchase all of these fun fashion items, the total would come to $8,428,535. That is equivalent to 9,745 Yves Saint Laurent pumps (averaging $845 a pair), 4,447 Chloe Marcie totes (averaging $1,895 a bag), and 46,825 J Brand skinny jeans (averaging $180 a pair). Dare to Wear: Bronzed Sex Kitten

The signature "cat-eye" is that easy and oh-so-fierce beauty trend that refuses to give up it's spot as number one. Since the feline look will probably never go out of style and is universally rad on just about anyone, we couldn't help but bring you some inspiration images to try and emulate.

Act Neutral

One way to stand out this season: Blend in. If the latest crop of pre-fall collections are of any indication, designers are taking a detox from last season’s neon binge and are instead opting for neutrals.

Take Christopher Bailey of Burberry, who comfortably fell into the fashion house’s favorite season. (What’s autumn without a crisp Burberry coat?) The creative director showed an elegant series of structured pieces in dusty grays and chocolaty browns. The neutral shades — occasionally punctuated by muted notes of mustard yellow, lavender, and sage — translated well into fabrics like tweed and wool. Bailey’s apparent muse of a pre–World War II party girl managed to toe the fine line between gloom and grace — think Kate Middleton on a foggy day.

Another favorite take on neutrals was Thakoon’s pre-fall line (pictured above), which lightened things up in khakis, creams, and mauvey grays. Instead of playing with colors and patterns — aside from hints of pastels and some select striped garments — designer Thakoon Panichgul experimented with multi-textured layers. Textiles like cable knit, printed wool, and Mongolian lamb went together seamlessly, accessorized simply with leather loafers in, what else, nude.

It Takes Two to Tango

The Pantone Color Institute recently announced that Tangerine Tango will takeover as the color of the year for 2012, replacing 2011's Honeysuckle. The institute describes the hue as a “spirited reddish orange [that] continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.”

Popularity for this shade is seen in the fashion world, as many designers incorporated the orange hue in their spring 2012 collections. The Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2012 highlights designers such as Elie Tahari, Cynthia Steffe, and Nanette Lepore, who used this flavorful color in their collections. The report also highlights other must-have shades of the upcoming season, which include Solar Power (a bright yellow), Margarita (muted green), and Cabaret (punchy pink), among others.

Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, sums it up well: “Consumers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism, and the promise of a brighter day.” Tango Tangerine certainly fits the bill for this and will provide a hint of spice to your spring wardrobe.

The Story Behind the Birkin Bag

The Birkin bag is an exclusive, handmade purse created by the coveted brand, Hermes. It serves as a status symbol of wealth due to its high price points and elusiveness to the public. The prices range from $9,000 to $150,000, depending upon their materials and the rarity. The bag is released in limited quantities, which in turn creates an unintended exclusivity.

The Birkin bag came into existence after Hermes chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas was seated next to Jane Birkin on a flight from Paris to London. She placed her straw bag in the overhead compartment, where the content tumbled to the floor. She then explained to Dumas how difficult it was for her to find a leather weekend bag she liked. The iconic brand was created in 1984, based off of a 1892 design.

The bag has greatly evolved since its first thought on the flight between Paris and London. The Birkin bag is now one of the most recognizable bags in the fashion industry — and in public. It is a highly coveted bag and for a while it had a waiting list of up to six years — the longest wait for any bag in history.

Rag and Bone Reveals Pre-Fall Collection

Rag & Bone have released their pre-fall 2012 collection, and first things first: No set theme is present. In fact, Marcus Wainwright gave it a straightforward description, "It's just clothes for how our girl really dresses."

The look book is a series of shots in front of the R & B office elevator shaft, complete with red leather numbers and embellished belts, as well as black and blue accessories.

Lot of skirts and dresses are present, complete with a lot of eccentric accessorizing, making each look all its own and distinguishable among the group. We fancy this idea of steering clear of a specific theme and just focusing on the fashion of real-girl likings.

From head wraps to booties and heels to classy jackets, we feel like everything you could ever need is right here in this collection. How perfect. We know where we'll be shopping come fall 2012.

Knit Care: How to Keep Sweaters Fuzz Free

Colder temperatures means snuggling back into our warmest sweaters and scarves (and welcoming a few new ones into the family, of course). But with all the wear these staples see during winter months, it’s difficult to keep them looking as fab as they did leaving the shop. Knits pill and begin to look like less of a sweater and more like something your cat coughed up. Fortunately preserving pieces takes only a trip to the drugstore and a little TLC- ensuring that favorite snowflake jumper will last many Christmases to come.

Don’t waste money on pricey sweater shavers. A basic razor (yes, the kind you take into the shower) is all you need to depill knits. Simply run the blade over the knit as you would your gams to remove excess fuzz. Take care to clean the razor between strokes to get the closest shave. Use short, gentle strokes so you don't pull the yarn or fabric. If yarn does pull, turn the sweater inside out and pull the loose threads through to the other side.

Knitwear’s delicate nature often means dry clean only and the bills can really add up when the temperature drops. Avoid the cost by keeping baby wipes on hand to blot up any potential stains. Club soda is another method. To keep knits smelling fresh, spritz with Febreeze and air out frequently.

Military Addition: Camouflage Pastels

While it still seems so far away at this point, the pre-fall 2012 collection of designer Thakoon's affordable Addition line has been announced, and we are loving the versatile eccentricity.

From a pastel palette of camouflage prints (brilliant!) to olive green pieces, the designer described Addition's oversized pockets, full skirts, and swing jackets as being "flirty, cheeky, military" clothes. 

So, a military vibe mixed with pastels, floral prints, and the ever-so-trendy olive green? Yes please! But wait, this olive color is not the only one to highlight — there's also a pretty dose of peachy pink, blue hues, and sandy tones. The best part about the holiday season? Well, we can’t pick just one, but those long weekends and the lazing about that comes with them are definitely up there. So why not slip into something more comfortable — and this time, we’re not talking about lingerie. Treat your feet with Anthropologie’s gorgeous Dream-In-Color Slippers. It's Only a Matter of Time

Watches are mechanical devices that are timeless staples (pun intended) in the world of fashion accessories. Watch bearers reap multiple benefits, as these wraparound gadgets not only tell time, but are also sure-fire tools to instantly accessorize an outfit. Over the years, watches have transformed from being strictly functional to becoming both functional and fashionable. Wearing an oversized men's watch was a booming trend, especially this past summer. From lustrous gold watches that sustain a refined aesthetic to colorful rubber watches that provide funk, all types of watches offer two things that make these timepieces worth your penny – quality workmanship and style.

Balmain Launches a Lower-Priced Fashion Line

Balmain will be launching their diffusion line, Pierre Balmain, which features surprisingly low price points, compared to jackets that can sell upwards of $20,000. Prices start at $180 and run as high as $1,200 for leather jackets.

Balmain is known for it's over-the-top embellishments, but the diffusion line offers motorcycle jackets, skinny jeans, tuxedo jackets, athletic-inspired tops and jackets, and (last but not least) leather sweatpants. There is also a Zebra print that is present throughout the majority of the collection and was inspired by the designer's first trip to Africa, where he brought home a Zebra rug.

The promotion of Pierre Balmain strays from the typical ad campaigns that Balmain uses to promote its brand. This time around, you will see three strategically released videos and the use of social media. The first video (which you can watch below) features model Abbey Lee Kershaw, her boyfriend Matthew Hutchinson, and their band One Mountain.

Pump Up the Volume

Widely popular in the nineties, neon was a hip indicator of street style that everyone went wild for. Making a comeback in 2012, it leaves the street in favor of the high-fashion highway, better known as the runway. Neon’s revival is spearheaded from the ground up, as punchy pumps are visible in various spring collections. Since many designers opted for highlighted hues for next season, we think you should, too.

Burberry has given us a preview of their Prorsum line for pre-fall 2012. Arguably, no one does trench coats or topcoats better than Burberry. These super slim silhouettes and aggressively tailored jackets are not for shy men, but they are for stylish men. This preview includes looks that are pretty much expected from Burberry: Nothing crazy or terribly different, just the quintessential Burberry aesthetic.

Chanel's Pre-Fall '12 Inspires a Serious Cat Eye

Yes, beyond being fabulously awed by the intricate craftsmanship of the collection itself, Karl Lagerfeld's pre-fall showcase for Chanel definitely reminded us that a fierce cat eye is always a must. Accented with a messy updo and romantic ferroniere, each model donned a coal black smokey eye that positively should be duplicated for a night out on the town. The rest of the face was kept clean yet luminous, and the lips were covered in a pretty, coral-toned gloss.

Urban Outfitters' Work of Art Look Book

Hipster mecca Urban Outfitters has debuted their winter look book, and it suffices to say they’re letting their colors show. The store quite literally highlighted their favorite looks for the season, swapping out scenic backgrounds for multicolored brush strokes that envelop (and occasionally obscure) each model. Impressively, every piece of clothing manages to stand out in this color collage — after all, it’s hard for gold lamé and leopard print to fade into the background.

So, what’s in Urban Outfitters stores this season? It looks like ladies and gents will be dabbling in lots of textures and patterns, with winter staples like knobby knit sweaters and Fair Isle prints layered over seemingly impractical cold-weather picks like crop tops, minis, and those fantastically fringed shorts. (We’ll find an excuse to wear them, no matter the weather.) And get ready to pop champagne all winter long — if Urban Outfitters’ love affair with sequins (spotted on platforms, sweaters, mini dresses, and skirts) is any indication, New Year’s Eve celebrations aren’t going into hibernation any time soon.

Rebecca Taylor Launches L.A. Flagship

This Thursday will mark the official grand opening of designer Rebecca Taylor's first flagship on the West Coast. The Robertson Boulevard shoppe will carry one-of-a-kind totes created by Taylor's celebrity clients, including Jessica Alba, Kristen Bell, Rashida Jones, and Selena Gomez.

Each individual tote will carry the same message: "RT Hearts LA." With designs ranging from Alba's leopard print to Bell's pink lace, there is a bag for everyone's liking.

With 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting "Dress for Success Worldwide West," the bags will be up for auction at the store's opening party on December 7 and will stay open for one week. Bidding will start at $100 — all of which, again, will be donated. Taylor must truly love L.A. to be this generous!

Patterned Leggings

Have you noticed the patterned legging trend this season? Apparently, leggings aren't just for warmth anymore; they're a stand-alone fashion statement.

The most prevalent patterns we've seen are stripes, polka dots, and fair isle knits. Besides patterns, we're also seeing a wide variety of textures, such as cozy waffle knits (to resemble thermal underwear) and lightweight merino wool.

Want to give it a try? Let your legs serve as the only pattern in your outfit. Like the models above, keep the rest of your ensemble simple and neutral. If you're not feeling so bold, let your patterned leggings peek out from under a knee-length dress or skirt and pair with tall boots.

Million-Dollar Fragrance Bottle

Following in the footsteps of Victoria's Secret's $2 million bra, DKNY Fragrance has collaborated with Martin Katz to create the world's first million-dollar fragrance bottle.

The stunning bottle features DKNY's new Golden Delicious Eau De Parfum. The bottle is a work of art, drawing inspirations from New York's beautiful skyline. It is carved from polished 14-karat yellow and white gold and showcases 2,700 round white diamonds that weight 15.17 carats. To add to this extravagance, the bottle is adorned with 183 golden yellow sapphires that weigh an additional 2.28 carats.

The cap of the bottle features yellow canary diamonds along with the DKNY Golden Delicious oval logo in, what else, diamonds. The 2,909 gems were sourced from various parts of the world, including a turquoise Paraiba tourmaline from Brazil, an oval Cabochon sapphire from Sri Lanka, and fifteen brilliant pink diamonds from Australia. Also included on the fragrance bottle are four rose-cut diamonds, an oval-cut ruby, and a pear-shaped diamond.

On December 5, the million dollar bottle will be showcased in New York City and will continue on a world tour, stopping in London, Mexico, and Malaysia. At the end of the tour, the bottle will be auctioned to admirers and proceeds will benefit Action Against Hunger.

Burberry Opens Flagship in Paris

As November ended and December took the spotlight, so did Burberry. It opened a brand new store in Paris, which happens to be its now-largest location worldwide. British friends — including co-host and Burberry Body fragrance face Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Cara Delevingne — were present at the grand commencement.

The 10,000-square foot flagship is made up of four floors, located at 56 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, directly across from the British Embassy. The crowd moved over to the British Ambassador's residence after the store-opening cocktail, and the British pop band known as The Feeling presented a live performance for all to enjoy.

Burberry chief creative officer Christopher Bailey spent a few hours in the boutique, and he commented on the unified level of impressive sophistication presented by shoppers. "It's in the blood of this city, luxury and fashion," Bailey told WWD.

Winter Blooms

Holly and mistletoe aren’t the only flora that will make this season bright. Designers have reinvented spring’s signature print with bold, graphic florals flourishing in this year’s fall and winter collections. One of the most notable among the crop is Givenchy’s resort 2012 collection, which primarily features digitalized floral prints, often manipulated in kaleidoscope-esque designs that bloom on pencil skirts, shirt dresses, and boxy tees. In fact, creative director Riccardo Tisci was so smitten with his prints that he later returned to his favorite florals to create another series of cropped sweatshirts, button-downs, and skirts after the line’s debut. Designers such as Dolce and Gabbana, Jil Sander, and Fendi fell into the same flower-patterned suit, presenting rich, large-scale blooms on silk dresses, coats, and clutches.

Luckily for your wallet, high-street stores have taken up the trend, too. Floral prints sprung up in Top Shop, whose girly Intense Floral Print Dress is just right for winter when paired with wooly tights and high boots, and in The Gap, whose floral-print cardigan can add a pop of color to the sea of black and grey garments in your winter wardrobe. Cold weather aside, you can still have some spring in your step — or at least in your closet.
