The LBD, or Little Black Dress, has been a fashion staple for about as long as anyone can remember. However, it is not as easy as just throwing on a black sheath and calling it a day. The cut, length, and details all play pivotal roles in pulling of the classic look.
Take for example Dianna Agron in this beautiful creation by Stella McCartney. She looks beautiful, smart, but there is still an edge of sex appeal. The sky-high heels, the back slit, and the bare arms all add to the essence of sex. But what really brings it all together is the velvet paneling that creates a sweetheart neck and magnifies her beautiful curves. This look may not be for everyone, but everyone has the right to own that perfect Little Black Dress.
There are a few simple rules when it comes to figuring out the perfect dress. First, the look of the LBD is made to hide your “imperfections” and to make you look beautiful; so the first rule is pretty simple, you have to feel good in it. If you don’t feel good inside the dress, you won’t look good. Secondly, figure out what details you want. Do you want “bling”, or feathers, or maybe you want velvet panels too. If you figure out what you want, that narrows the choices down from the millions of options. Third, don’t be afraid to try new things. Maybe you have never worn a scoop collar before, this may be your opportunity. And lastly, make sure it can grow with you. This shouldn’t be a one-time dress. This should always be appropriate, from work to dinner to that cool new club. Remember that when you look back on pictures, you won’t want to see a dated you, you want to see a timeless you. Happy Dress Hunting!
